Mulled Wine: The Coziest Fall & Winter Cocktail

When it comes to hosting in the cooler months, there’s just nothing like serving mulled wine. I love that it’s so welcoming – it instantly makes people feel cared for and cozy.

It’s also incredibly easy to make! You basically just throw everything into a pot… seriously, that’s it. But that’s not to say that isn’t special, because it is. This is a simple luxury indeed. Enjoy the fresh citrus, and the aroma of the spices you choose. I like adding a little rosemary for an extra-festive touch.

This mulled wine is honestly all the inspiration you need to call a few friends over, isn’t it? And if you’re looking for more, you won’t want to miss our brand-new Harvest Dinner Party Masterclass – it’s the ultimate guide to hosting your own expressive gathering this season.

The Recipe:

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 2 to 4 cups apple cider (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Cointreau or brandy (optional)
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons honey (optional)
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 to 4 star anise
  • 3 to 4 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 1 to 2 oranges sliced, for garnish
  • Rosemary sprigs (optional)

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a saucepan and warm to a very gentle simmer. Be careful, you don’t want it to boil out the alcohol! You can also use your slow cooker if you’re looking to save oven space.

I’ve written this recipe very loosely so that you can modify it to your tastes. I personally do not think honey is required when using apple cider, because it adds plenty of sweetness. But you can be the judge!
